Olds Guy's Garage: Finally, in this episode we start the 1972 Olds Cutlass! Back in the day, the good old 1970's, my dad wanted to put an Olds engine in his car with a little more power than the 350 that the car came with and was given a 400 block out of a 67 442 at the time.

These motors were known to be able to rev higher than other Olds big blocks as well as having solid mains and forged steel crankshafts. Oldsmobile even offered a few, under 50, drag strip 67 442's and paired the 400 with a tri carb setup.

So he completely disassembled the 400 in his apartment at the time to inspect the block and parts and to ensure everything was good . Then he took the parts to Donald Kirn at Kirn Racing Engines here in St. Louis. Don Kirn was a very popular engine builder at the time who also built motors for Rusty and Mike Wallace and many pro strip dragsters at the time. The finish product was a unique Olds motor that would launch hot off the line.

It's been at least 35 years since the cylinders in this Oldsmobile 400 have breathed fire and the day has come. Let's hear the sounds of a motor built by a true engine builder of yesteryear. It's like a time capsule. Enjoy!
