The problem with trying to observe / film Mashatu’s antelopes and other ungulates is that they are flight animals thus a soon as you turn up they tend to briefly watch the vehicle then turn and walk or run away. This leads to, what my friend Keith Smith calls, ‘a bum shot’. The largest antelopes, the Eland, are the shyest of them all. Trying to get a close up of them is nigh impossible. The best place to be is in a hide on the edge of a water hole. The flight animals then come to you. With their guard dropped and in a more relaxed state the finer details of these creatures can be appreciated.
