It might sound surprising, but riding a rollercoaster—especially sitting at the back—has been shown to help some people pass kidney stones. The rapid starts, stops, and sharp turns create strong physical forces inside the body, which can jostle the stones loose and help them move through the urinary tract. Interestingly, research has found that the effect is strongest in the back rows of the rollercoaster, where the forces are amplified compared to the front.
This doesn’t mean rollercoasters are a medical treatment, but it highlights how the physical dynamics of movement can influence the body in unexpected ways. For small kidney stones that are already close to being passed, the added shaking and acceleration might provide just enough force to push them along. It’s a fascinating example of how something recreational can overlap with health in an unexpected way.
