Toyota Tundra Air System Switching Valve Stuck Open Bank 2 - Code P2442 Step-by-Step Replacement. 4.6L V8.
This is a common problem with the Toyota Tundra.
Water gets into the Secondary Air Injection System, into one of the two Air System Switching Valves, it rusts and gets stuck open.
It could be either Bank 1, Code P2440 on the Driver's Side or Bank 2, Code P2442 on the Passenger's side.
When this happens, you'll be alerted on the gauge cluster with not only the "Check Engine" light but also the "Traction Control Off" light coming on and the "Four Wheel Drive Low" light, "4LO" will be constantly flashing.
It doesn't have anything to do with the four wheel drive, the combination of lights are a warning.
This causes the vehicle to enter it's "Fail-Safe" mode which is also known as the "Limp-Home" mode.
In this mode, the vehicle won't be able to go over 40-50 mph or lower in some cases.
I've replaced the valve on Bank 1 twice before.
In this Step-by-Step guide I'll show how to replace the valve on Bank 2.
