Gorod | Programmers Of Decline | The Song That Taught Me Hybrid Picking

Описание к видео Gorod | Programmers Of Decline | The Song That Taught Me Hybrid Picking

The song that taught me "Hybrid Picking". Finally!

Here's both the tab and video I used back in the day to learn this song. I even used the tab for this video and only made minor changes based on what I could hear in the actual song.

Had to reschedule it twice and even shot it twice on the recording day due to, well, carb coma, I guess lol. Yeah I usually record in the morning on an empty stomach, but this time I had a small breakfast which interfered with my mental abilities. Filmed again in the afternoon and got a good take out of it!

Soooo, what do I write now? Well, there's two reasons for the song and video. It's technically on my bucket list because it was the song that actually taught me that fancy hybrid picking. Practiced it a lot back in the day and always wanted to record it. But the actual reason for the video is different!

I already hinted on a tutorial video in the style of "The song that taught me *insert technique*". And I had planned it for some while now, but as you might know now, the plans I have seldomly work out, a lack of motivation for the most part.

But right now, I'm super fed up with the amount of misinformation and bad tutorials on youtube that either sell you stuff you don't need, stuff that actually hinders your progress, stuff that is just not true for the most part, mindless exercises, new clickbait terms for stuff that is either not important or actually something that already had a name, or just practice techniques that work, but just for the super gifted 10% (YoU shouLdN't pRactiCe sLoW, sTaRt wiTh pLaYinG fAsT....stuff like that). Or the worst thing, feeding you incomplete information to get you to subscribe to their program or become a student. MONEY BABY. I currently suspect that most of those teachers are either bad teachers or they really do that stuff on purpose just to make money.

I recently commented on a video by some german youtube guitar channel about this new school of thought of "Practicing fast instead of working your way up to speed". I tried to bring up some thoughtful criticism about that practice, because while it works to some degree, and I actually use something that is similiar, it only works for super intermediate players, with experience of like at least 10 years. In the end, the answer I got was just some stupid advertisment for his "technique program" where you, of course, learn all that, which I criticised, in like 6 months. I was like "you're shitting me!?". Snake Oil Salesman stuff basically.

Hell even the "good" and popular channels do that bullshit all the time and seldomly have any good advice for the "not so gifted 90% that have to learn all that shit in their spare time, because life". The worst one was the "210bpm tremolo picking on the second try" video. Dude, even getting to 210bpm takes at least 2 yeas of constant practice. Playing them with attitude and confidence takes a life-time of practice and playing. I'm not kidding!

So that was the final straw for me. Got me thinking, man, I gotta do something. That had me rethink that "how I learned..." idea. Basically as a test because I haven't done any tutorial video.

Yeah guys, I want to do a tutorial video! And "The song that taught me - Hybrid Picking - with Programmers Of Decline by Gorod" is the first one, just as a test. I know that it's not going to get too much clicks, but that's what makes it good as a first video.

It's basically reconstructing the way I learned the song and technique, but with improvements based on my experience with hybrid picking. As a technique learning song, this song is kind of hard, but I did back in the day, and I think you can do too! So it's not a simple tutorial but it's also not a comprehensive guide either. It's basically in between. My aim is 2-4 weeks for people who can already play the basic sweep picking patterns on a similiar tempo. I've already written the script with all the necessary information you need, and I plan on recording the video this weekend.

The only downside: I can't promise you that I'll get that video done. Motivation and stuff, but yeah, I'm still pretty pissed about all that other bullshit so I think that's enough motivation haha. But here's one thing I promise you: if I don't release a video, I will still give you a written guide on how to learn Hyrid Picking with the patterns of this song, based on the script I already wrote!

There's also another topic I wanted to talk about but the description is full. I think it's time for another debate on "fake-playing". A band I was looking up to for a long time just released an album that sounded a bit too good to be true, and their current live-shows confirm my suspicions, that it was just too good to be true. But that's a topic for another day.

Enjoy the video! :)
