South Africa constructed its first plastic road five years ago, thanks to a collaborative effort between the Kouga municipality and Scottish company MacRebur alongside local partners.

This initiative, which was launched in 2019, saw the innovative reuse of more than 500 000 plastic bags, transforming them into a durable road surface.
