Northern Line at Embankment - The Famous Mind the Gap Voice

Описание к видео Northern Line at Embankment - The Famous Mind the Gap Voice

Just a quick short video this time around with a distinctive vocal voice of the London Underground, a few short clips of the "Mind The Gap" message.

The decision to create an audio message to be played onto the Underground was first introduced in 1968, due to the impracticalness of either the driver or guard alerting passengers at stations where there are severe curves. With "Mind the Gap" being chosen as a short, concise message that got the point across. There have been several voices across the years who have recorded the announcement, Embankment has the distinction of being the last and only station on the network to use the recording of Oswald Laurence, which was reinstated so that his widow could continue listening to his voice.

What's also interesting is that only the northbound platform at Embankment has the tight curvature, this is because the station was built on what was a circular turning loop for the Charing Cross, Euston & Hampstead railway's terminus at Charing Cross in 1907, being repurposed as a through platform when the line was extended to Waterloo & Kennington.

So sit back and enjoy some 1995 stock arrivals, and always remember to "Mind the Gap". Hope you enjoy!
