WCW Halloween Havoc 97 took place in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 26th 1997. Coming live from the MGM Grand, the show was headlined with a non-title steel cage match between Hollywood Hulk Hogan and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. This match came about when Hogan and Eric Bischoff attacked J.J Dillon on an episode of Nitro, Piper was brought in to replace Dillon as an interim commissioner, and Piper decided to book the cage match as Halloween Havoc's main event. Piper wanted to make things difficult for the nWo, so he also added Larry Zybsko to the Scott Hall vs Lex Luger match as a special referee, and he made the Randy Savage vs Diamond Dallas Page match a Falls Count Anywhere contest.

Other matches on the show include Chris Jericho vs Gedo, Disco Inferno vs Jacqueline, and the highly praised and critically acclaimed Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero "Mask vs Title" match. Some consider this match as the greatest in WCW's long history.
