Drumheller Channels and Rimrock Mesa – Columbia National Wildlife Refuge, Washington State

Megafloods, from 2.5 million to 12,000 years ago, shaped this landscape born of fire and ice. Pillars of lava stand as a testament to its history of violent volcanic eruptions. These pillars line the many canyon walls that form a maze of channels, mesas, and seep lakes. The Drumheller Channels Landmark and the many nearby lakes are an important ecosystem and a great destination for avid and novice hikers alike to enjoy a diverse and contrasting natural environment.
