The Last continuously existing Taino-Arawak Village (from 1552 till today) from the first century of Colonialism left on Earth - is on the Caribbean Island of Cuba, there are only 100 of them left in the village of La Rancheria under Chief Panchito Ramirez, just beyond the settlement of Caridad de los Indios', the government of Cuba replaced all their traditional houses with modern ones, believing this to be a 'progressive' move in a non-indigenous mind - that equates modernization with progress, not understanding the importance of the preservation and continuity of indigenous tangible and intangible heritage. While this is the ONLY continuously existing Taino village left that still functions in a Tribal context with a Chief etc, there are approximately 5,000 still phenotypically distinct and virtually genetically unmixed other Taino descendants from known pre-Columbian Taino families living in other parts of Cuba (mostly in Baracoa) according to my contacts in the Cuban government, but these families exist as urban indigenous with so specially demarcated or recognized indigenous lands or traditional Chiefs of their communities. I did not make this video, but I personally know the Baracoa Taino communities very well, as my great uncle married into one such community in 1929, and I have visited them often. In the Dominican Republic and in Puerto Rico there are thousands of other still predominantly Taino-Arawak DNA & phenotype individuals likewise living as urban indigenous persons. Taino-Arawaks only went 'extinct' in the pages of history books written by the Spanish European colonizers who wanted to erase their presence from the dominant society and social landscape, this is a FACT you need to remember. For anyone to believe and promote the Taino-Arawak 'extinction' myths of European racists - is to yourself become a promoter of European Colonial racism.
