Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Railway Children Gala Monday 4th May 2015

On a beautiful sunny bank holiday day. I went to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway to attend The Railway Children 45th Anniversary.

The railway was celebrating 45 years since the famous film was launched back in 1970.

The locomotives rostered for the bank holiday weekend were Fowler 4f 43924 & Bulleid Pacific 34092 City of Wells.

We start at Haworth were we see the locos being prepared for work as the 4f moves off to couple up to 34092 as the 2 headed off to Oxenhope to collect there trains at Oxenhope.

34092 took charge of the 1st train of the day on the 11.06am service we join the train for a run down to Keighley. From Keighley we do at least 3 round trips with the bulleid from Keighley to Oxenhope.

The 2nd round trip formed the express run The Scotch Flyer recreating the train that sped past Oakworth just like in the film.

Unfortunately the flyer was stopped at Damens junctions due to the late running 4f which was running the vintage service with some of the original coaches that starred in the film. Soon we were on the move again and picking up speed fast fast enough to recreate the scene from the film with the rein-actors waving to the train as we flew past the station at Oakworth.

Soon the 2nd round trip was completed I leave 34092 for a while at Haworth and join 43924 for a run up to ingrow west were i saw the 4f leave the train before seeing Sir Barkley in action on a short demonstration line and visit to the museum.

We rejoin the bullied to complete 1 final round trip before heading home.

Our final shots are at Keighley were I see 34092 depart with the final train of the day.

To sum up it was a magnificent day celebrating 45 years of a film that has become an Icon within the railway industry. Brilliant job done by the railway looking forward to seeing them again in the future.
