BeetHarvesting in the Tullow area mid 1960s

Описание к видео BeetHarvesting in the Tullow area mid 1960s

Footage showing sugar beet being harvested by a machine adapted by Thomas Flynn (Tom) of Flynn's Garage (Tullow) Ltd., in Tullow Co. Carlow Ireland. Sugar beet harvesting was part of the agricultural scene in the Co. Carlow area until 2006. For many years since the industry's inception in the 1920s, it was deemed quite complex to harvest the crop until the 1960s, making large scale farming quite difficult. Later in the footage, we see tests of one of the first Armer Salmon beet harvestors in action. Flynns at the time were main Massey Ferguson (MF) dealers. Some of the people in the footage include members of the O'Toole family of Ardoyne, Tullow.
