Game 3 of the 3 game series from the Vet in Philadelphia, as the series is tied at 1-1 with the rubber match game with starters left-hander Steve Avery for visiting Atlanta and right-hander Mike Williams for home Philadelphia.
Game goes back n forth as the Braves take an early lead scoring a run in the 1st inning on an RBI single from Fred McGriff. Phillies bounce back and take the 2-1 lead in the 3rd on a 2-run HR from C Darren Daulton (15) Braves come right back with 4 runs in the top of the 4th including a 2-run HR from LF Ryan Klesko. Williams is replaced by Right-hand reliever Toby Borland.
Phillies have a 9-5 lead going into the 8th inning , Braves pick up 4 runs including Ryan Klesko 2nd HR of the game (off Paul Quantrill) after a balk call, pinch hitter David Justice hits a 2-run HR, his 12th of the season making it a one run game with Phillie 9-8 lead. Doug Joes who replaced Quantrill in the 8th, earns his 19th save of the season. Toby Borland with his 1st win of the season (1-0) and Steve Avery with the loss (5-2)
