Exciting News: Easier Path to Australian Permanent Residency for 482 Visa Holders!

The Australian Government is making significant changes that will make it easier for short-term 457 or 482 visa holders to achieve permanent residency in Australia after just 2 years.

Currently, only 482 visa holders with occupations on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) can pursue an Employer Nomination Scheme (186) visa via the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) pathway after completing 3 years of full-time employment with their sponsoring employer. By the end of 2023, these changes will expand to benefit the majority of 482 Temporary Skill Shortage visa holders, eliminating restrictions to specific occupations. The required length of employment with your current employer will also be reduced to just 2 years.

Most 482 visa holders will benefit, but you must still meet 186 visa criteria, including competent English skills (IELTS 6.0 or PTE 50) and being under 45 (with some specific exemptions).
