A Rear-End Observation Car View of Reading & Northern's Line from Jim Thorpe to Pittston, PA

In May of 2023, Reading & Northern began weekend operations of trains from Pittston, PA into Jim Thorpe, PA to compliment their existing service that they already ran out of Reading Outer Station. The equipment used on this new service was usually one of their GP-38 diesels and a few of their coaches, along with a snack car.

For 2024, to start the season, they decided to add their observation car, “King Coal,” to the train as a premium option. I was able to get to ride this car for the first time and on the return trip, was able to record the entire journey from Jim Thorpe to Pittston.
