1997 🇰🇷 South Korea vs Cuba 🇨🇺 🏐 Women Volleyball 🏐 FIVB World Grand Prix

To me, 90s volleyball games were the best. Cuba, Russia, Brazil, China, USA, South Korea, Japan, Italy were top 8 women volleyball teams. By that time most players were all rounded since yet to introduce Libero until 1998. Games were intense and more rally.
World Grand Prix in 90s standard was high (vs Vnl now) since less leagues and matches. Players have more time to prepare WGP. Especially 90s was Cuba dynasty. 9 consecutive champion in world class tournament but WGP wasn’t their best form always.
Post-Match Commentary :
This was 1st week game held in Suwon Korea. The news reported Cuba arrived 2 days in advance to Korea from North America. All players were still jet lag, literally they were all sleeping on court. In 1997, Cuba team changed their form of playing. They used one setter to set all the balls instead of two. #10 Regla Torres (22yo, 1.91m) changed to opposite hitter.
#12 Aguero (20yo, 1.77m) became the only setter and she ranked second amongst all setters after preliminary round. What impressed me about her was the balls she passed were very stable and easy for spikers to spike. Her attack and serve were also very fightening. Cuba coach made big mistake substitited her by another setter. Korea team had changed a new coach that year. #4 Chang Yoon-hee (27yo, 1.7m) didn't play national team. Koreas was 5W1L in preliminary round. Their opponents were too weak and faced this jet lagging Cubans. It should be the 1st time and last time Korea beat down Cuba during Cuba dynasty. Their play was average just Cuban were jet lag still.
