Kyushu road trip: Mt. Aso & Kurokawa Onsen | Japan travel vlog

Day 1 of our epic Kyushu road trip! From snowy Mt. Aso (Japan's most active volcano) to beautiful Kurokawa Onsen, this Japan travel vlog has a bit of everything!

Join us as we kick off our road trip adventure after renting a car in Fukuoka, ready to explore the scenic landscapes of Southern Japan. Along the way, we make pit stops at charming Japanese roadside spots, immersing ourselves in local culture and cuisine.

We have a snowy and somewhat chaotic adventure trying to get to the top of Mt. Aso, Japan's most active volcano, without proper winter tires or snow chains (whoops). After our mountain adventure, we refuel with a delicious lunch at a traditional Japanese railway café, savouring the flavours of authentic local Kyushu cuisine.

We then arrive at our home for the night, Kurokawa Onsen, a historic town renowned for its picturesque hot springs. Be sure to stick around for a complete tour of our Ryokan, Oku-no-yu, a traditional Japanese inn, where we indulge in the ultimate relaxation with visits to three different onsens.

But the highlight of our day? An amazing 12-course traditional Japanese fine dining experience known as "Kaiseki" where we try local delicacies like "Basashi" (raw horse).
