Two aged men were conversing in the shade of a tree located beside a temple in a village in Kumarakom. I walked towards them, with the purpose of finding a few heritage houses located in that village.

Both men had a slender physique, their names had a retro flavour; Unni and Aniyan.

Aniyan after a thoughtful moment guided me with a specific direction to reach a few houses.

"Come with me, I am going home, towards that route only." Aniyan did not hesitate to show his enthusiasm. A very pure local human.

Aniyan walked along with me half a mile and showed me the direction, I requested his phone number and departed from there.

I walked and found a few pretty houses in that village, which is a backwater region layered by canals.

It was during that walk, I happened to reach the house of Jaynchandran who is a retired employee of Kerala State Electricity Board.

While I was clicking pictures of Jayachandran's house, he noticed my elation and told me
"You must visit our relative's house, it is very nearby. That house is very vintage"
Jayachandran helped me by telling me "Walk the adjacent road to the school nearby, and you will find a caretaker named Mohan, he will help you."
Jayachandran talked softly, in minimal sentences.

Next day morning I reached the location mentioned by Jayachandran.
I met the caretaker Mohan at the gate the house, he was preparing to carry a fresh cut banana stalk on his bicycle.

Mohan allowed me to walk through the compound of the house, to click the pictures. The vintage house is an ancestral house of a former judge of the Supreme Court of India, who served as the Chief justice of the Gujarat and Jammu & Kashmir High Courts.

At 8.50am, the directional sunlight illuminated the house, I walked the compound of the house which was neatly maintained by the caretaker Mohan.

Layers of patina glued on the surface of the compound walls added a palette to the vintage house, and the terracotta roofed shack looked well planted in the ecosystem.

Kumarakom, a part of the Kuttanad region, is a cluster of little islands on the Vembanad Lake in Kottayam district of Kerala.
