People of Faith: Elijah | 1 Kings 17 | 18th August 2024

This sermon looks at how Elijah displayed an amazing example of faith across his life. He had a confidence and an assurance in God that we should want to imitate. 

In this chapter three ways Elijah displays faith are unpacked. Firstly, he displays faith in consistently hearing the voice of God. Secondly, he exhibits faith in repeatedly and promptly doing the action that the words he has heard require of him. Finally, he demonstrates courageous faith in the way that he boldly prays. 

However, Elijah's commendable faith that we should seek to imitate, only serves to point us towards Jesus Christ. For he perfected the faith displayed by Elijah and did so uniquely as God himself in human flesh. Elijah was strengthened and sustained by God in being faithful. Whilst Jesus is the strength and sustenance of our faithfulness. 

Lord, let us imitate the Christ like faithfulness in our lives displayed by Elijah, for your kingdom and glory.
