As a manufacturer of cheese and other dairy products, the machines at Hellenic Dairies must meet high hygienic requirements. The choice was therefore quickly made for a MULTIPOND #multiheadweigher of type MP-20-1000-400-J-S5. With this weigher and the special S5 variant, the company is well equipped for the future. In addition, the new weigher offers the option of weighing other products such as olives as a topping.

The weighing system is a #MULTIPOND multihead weigher of the latest machine generation. The central theme here is hygienic design - right down to the smallest detail. The J-generation was specially developed for use in areas with very high hygiene requirements. All J-generation multihead weighers have IP 69 protection as standard - and this without the use of an external compressed air supply.
The robustness of the multihead weigher is absolutely unique on the market. Especially on this application where due to the brine of the product regular cleaning is necessary. MULTIPOND was the most appropriate choice for this application according to Hellenic Dairies.

By means of a hygienic conveyor belt, the #feta cubes are first transferred to the feeding unit and then fed to the multihead weigher. The vertically vibrating distribution cone distributes the sensitive cubes to the radial Feed Trays. These, first transfer the feta cubes to the feed hoppers. As soon as the weighing process is complete and the portion has left the weigh hopper the next partial portion is already being dropped into the weigh hoppers.
After the weighing process, the partial portion is discharged via special swivel hoppers into the intermediate memory hoppers located below, greatly increasing the number of possible combinations. This process is the basis for maximum accuracy and the achievement of high cycle rates.
From the individual partial quantities, the combination is selected which corresponds or comes closest to the target weight to be achieved.
The finished, weight-accurate portions of Feta are then delivered to special pots with a draining sieve, via a bespoke designed transfer system.
The final pots of feta cubes are then filled with brine and sealed.

For the future, the entire plant is already designed for a 2-component mixture. In addition to the feta cubes, olives, for example, could also be weighed and transferred to the pots. The product separation required for this is already installed on the weigher.

The system is currently used to weigh nominal fill weights of 150 - 175g feta cubes - at a rate of 2 x 50 weighings per minute. This currently amounts to 40,000 pots per day.
The line operates on two to three shifts and processes about 6 tons of product per day. During the work shifts the entire line is subjected to complete wet cleaning every four hours - the hygienic design of the weigher providing the basis for quick and easy cleaning.
The entire line is literally "submerged" in this process.
Containers and dosing chutes are quickly removed without the need for tools and cleaned on specially designed wash walls. Weigher design and fast cleaning of parts reduces downtime to an absolute minimum.
