Western AF presents Benjamin Tod | “Ballad of Spider John” by Willis Alan Ramsey

As a songwriter who has crafted many songs using traditional American archetypes as characters in a narrative, this one by Willis Alan Ramsey is the best I’ve ever heard.

I first heard this around the age of 15 with Christian Tengelitsch who is my oldest friends from my roots in Sumner County, TN. His father Rick West was a songwriter’s songwriter and used to throw us records like diamonds to guide our path toward musical enlightenment. This self titled record from 1972 was one of those diamonds and this track in particular has brought me inspiration many years later.
