24hrs Train Journey from Halifax to Montreal

All aboard the Ocean Sleeper train from Via Rail Canada. This train journey will take us 1,346km from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Montreal, Quebec. This overnight train ride will take 23 and a half hours and can be done in economy class or in private sleeper cabins which we chose.

The journey started at 11am at the Halifax train station were we boarded the Ocean train and headed to our private cabin. Our train cabin has two seats that transformed into a bunk bed with a foldable table, storage compartments and even a private bathroom with a wet shower.

All meals were served in the restaurant car of the Via Rail train by a very friendly crew. The food was mediocre at best apart from the dessert which were simply incredible. A special mention for the carrot cake!

This 24 hours train journey seemed long at first but flew by really fast and even though we did not sleep very well, it was much better than sleeping on a plane to say the least.

Overall, we would do it again. The only issue for us is that taking the plane for just over an hour is a little bit less expensive than the train in sleeper class and much more expensive than driver the 11hrs between Halifax and Montreal.
