This Nest Thermostat Common wire hack shows you how to install a Nest Common wire in just a few minutes using the wires that are already installed on your thermostat. The Nest Common wire is also known as the Nest C wire and functions similar to a neutral wire for your smart thermostat.

Not all HVAC systems require a common wire to work with Nest but some do. The Nest Common wire is used to allow the internal battery on the Nest Thermostat to charge. If you are getting low battery issues, low power issues or poor wifi connectivity from your Nest Thermostat often times it means that your Nest Thermostat may need a common wire also known as a C wire.
