אֲדוֹן עוֹלָם · אֲשֶׁר מָלַךְ
Eternal Lord · Who reigned supreme

beterem kol : yetzir nivra :
בְּטֶרֶם כָּל יְצִיר נִבְרָא
When no other beings had yet been created :

le-et na-asa : becheftzo kol
לְעֵת נַעֲשָׂה בְחֶפְצוֹ כֹּל
At the time when everything was created by his will

azay melekh : shemo niqra :
אֲזַי מֶלֶךְ שְׁמוֹ נִקְרָא
Then He was proclaimed “King” :

ve-acharey : kichlot hakol
וְאַחֲרֵי כִּכְלוֹת הַכֹּל
And when everything in the universe will have ended

Lev-a-do : imlokh nora :
לְבַדּוֹ יִמְלוֹךְ נוֹרָא
He will rule alone, in awesomeness :

vehu hayah : vehu hoveh ·
וְהוּא הָיָה וְהוּא הֹוֶה
And He was · and He is ·

vehu yih’yeh : betif-ara :
וְהוּא יִהְיֶה בְּתִפְאָרָה
And He will be glorious :

vehu echad · ve-eyn sheni ·
וְהוּא אֶחָד וְאֵין שֵׁנִ
Alone is He · There is no other ·

lehamshil lo lehachbira :
לְהַמְשִׁיל לוֹ לְהַחְבִּירָה
To be compared to Him or to be His equal :

B’li reshit b’li takhlit ·
בְּלִי רֵאשִׁית בְּלִי תַכְלִית
He has no beginning and no end;

velo ha-oz vehamisra :
וְלוֹ הָעֹז וְהַמִּשְׂרָה
Power and dominion are His :

vehu eli · vechay go-ali ·
וְהוּא אֵלִי וְחַי גּוֹאֲלִי
He is my God ·My living Redeemer ·

vetzur chevli : be-et tzara :
וְצוּר חֶבְלִי בְּעֵת צָרָה
My Rock when I have pain and trouble :

vehu nisi : umanos li ·
וְהוּא נִסִּי וּמָנוֹס לִי
He is my banner and my refuge ·

menat kosi : beyom eqra :
מְנָת כּוֹסִי בְּיוֹם אֶקְרָא
The portion of my cup when I call upon Him :

Beyado : afkid ruchi ·
בְּיָדוֹ אַפְקִיד רוּחִי
Into His hands I commit my spirit ·

be-et Ishan : ve-a-ira :
בְּעֵת אִישָׁן וְאָעִירָה
Both when I’m asleep and when I’m awake :

ve-im ruchi : gviyati ·
וְעִם רוּחִי גְוִיָּתִי
And with my spirit my body too ·

Adonai li : velo ira :
אֲדֹנָי לִי וְלֹא אִירָא
Adonai is with me and I shall not fear :
