The reverse yarn over - sometimes also called backward yarn over - is a very simple knitting increase. Structurally, it will create the same stitch as a M1R but will be a bit looser. Unlike the regular yarn over, the reverse yarn over does not create an eyelet. That's because the resulting strand will be mounted twisted and as you purl across it in the return row, you are closing the eyelet.
Typically the reverse yarn over is incorporated into other knitting techniques, like Jeny's surprisingly stretchy bind off. But it certainly can be used on its own as well.
