Backpacking in DEHENAKANDA to SRI PADHA trail

Dehenakanda/Mukkuwatta - Sri Padha trail is the hardest among well known six trails leading to Sri Padha. Distance is almost 15 Kilometers up to the "Udamaluwa" from "Two Kovil" junction on Dehenakanda Road.

The starting point of the trail is a Buddha Statue in Hatharaganga Division. In this area, the footpath is wide and clear up to a certain extent as this pathway is used by estate workers and jaggery palm toddy tappers. Therefore in this part of the trail, you must be careful not to mess up with toddy tappers' pathways leading to jaggery palm trees. The footpath is narrow after Seetha Gangula (Mahaweli Ganga) and would vanish among Nelu bushes in the off-season.

You will come across many key locations such as Rath Ganga, Somarathna Ambalama, Wewal Dola, Bodhiya (Bathiya) Dola, Wellakkara Rock Cave, Seetha Gangula, Paradise Fall, Waterfall junction, etc. while tracking in this trail up to the point where this trail meets Rathnapura route between fifth water distribution tank and Ehela Post (kanuwa).

Water streams are abundant with leeches in the rainy season. Night camping is possible at Seetha Gangula (Mahaweli Ganga) top of Paradise Fall. Last climbing from the base of the Sri Padha is strenuous (Mahagiri Dhamba in the jungle) with thick Nelu bushes.
