In today’s episode of the Talk Heathen, Doctor Ben and Sydney Davis Jr. Jr., discuss the wages of sin, dangerous callers, and Biblical abortion.

Steve in CA asks the hosts if they know what salvation is and preaches that the wages of sin is death. Why do we need salvation from this death sentence? Do you believe that it is fair for us to pay for what people who lived before us did? Why do you think god made the rules like that? Why does god not prevent harm from happening to children? Does god want the best for people and is he all loving? How is that reconciled with people being killed because of a structure that god set up for them to fail? Why are we still paying on the debt if we were not even here when the original sinners made god so upset? What would it take to get you to admit that god is NOT pro-life? How do you justify all the people who died because of the rules god made? Rather than trying to make something black and white, try and question the gray areas.

Damon in CA would like to talk about religious authority, religion on the decline, and how the hosts take on callers. One of the best ways to handle these callers is to remember that nothing they say has merit towards you. It is always good to learn and have an eye on people who disagree. People who are devoutly religious are living in constant fear. Sydney asks the people she debates if they want to learn about something or just argue about it. Don’t give so much power to their words that they are triggering, and have good boundaries. Despite how loud the evangelicals are being, they are actually hemorrhaging numbers of adherents. Doctor Ben mentions how public debates are preferred over private inbox messages because they hold everyone accountable for what they say. When you don’t give people a platform to respond with their script, and don’t act triggered, they will not know what to say.

Mr. D in Canada gets confrontational about how Numbers 5:27 prescribes abortion. What translation are you using and what is the source of your contrary claim? What physically happens to the woman in the Bible if the pregnancy is not terminated? How do you know that what your scholars are saying is correct and it is not just some appeal to authority? We are asking you to tell us why your translation is right. How did you translate from Hebrew to English? Why are you so angry bro?

Trigger Warning, Suicide Sergei in Canada calls to talk about how doctors in Canada will offer assisted suicide to patients unprompted. How do you know it is not just one specific person who phrased it like this? These are difficult conversations to have with many options being offered, and doctors with poor bedside manners are hardly the norm. These doctors may need some communication training.
