The NHS’s 70th birthday is a perfect opportunity to remind people about the hundreds of professions that keep the NHS running.
In fact, there are over 350!

Each year, the NHS in England delivers approximately 630,000 babies and NHS staff have delivered more than 53 million since the NHS was launched on 5 July 1948.

When it comes to pregnancy and childbirth, there are many different NHS staff who’ll help and support you along the way.

Some of them, like midwives, sonographers, GPs and receptionists, meet you in person. Others, like hospital pharmacists, caterers and scientists who analyse test results, often work behind the scenes to help keep you and your baby as healthy as possible.

Here, we introduce you to just some of the people who play a part in your maternity journey.
