Welcome to my latest video in my Honest Doctor series. In this video I'm discussing 5 simple tips for getting a second opinion from another doctor, and some very basic DOs and DON'Ts that may just save you a lot of headache and heartache.

Seeking a second opinion is a universal right in healthcare, and no doctor should ever stand in the way of that. The only exception is in an emergency when time is critical. However, just because it's your right to get a second opinion, it doesn't mean you can just do what you like and have no problems.

Doctors are human beings too, and if treated badly, may not be very happy with you.

So my simple list is:
1. Don't be afraid to ask for a second opinion
2. Tell the other doctor they are a second opinion
3. Don't play doctors off against each other
4. Be prepared for the second opinion to be different
5. Be prepared for it to be the same!

Sounds so obvious, but so easily forgotten.

If you follow these simple tips, getting a second opinion from another doctor will be a much easier process.
