🌏 Getting Tattooed and Talking in Buscalan Village, where Whang Od lives! 🇵🇭
In this video, I share my experience of visiting Buscalan, the remote mountain village where Whang Od lives. I had the chance to get a traditional hand-tapped tattoo and talk with the locals, learning more about them and their daily life.

In Kalinga culture, receiving a tattoo was a rite of passage, marking significant milestones in a person’s life. More than mere body art, it was a deeply personal and communal experience, connecting the individual to their community, ancestors, and the spiritual realm.

Tattoos in this tradition go beyond decoration; they embody personal identity, social status, spiritual beliefs, and cultural continuity. This intricate web of meanings highlights the profound significance of tattoos within the rich cultural tapestry of the Philippines.

Although Whang-Od got her wrist injured and wasn't able to tattoo, her relatives covered our sessions and had some conversation with us. We're truly grateful for this experience.
