Yamaha VSTAR 1100 Baron Oil Filter Relocation Kit Installation ORK

Описание к видео Yamaha VSTAR 1100 Baron Oil Filter Relocation Kit Installation ORK

In a previous video a few years ago I had touted the virtues of not using an oil filter relocation kit and the benefits, though I'd also listened to the feedback from folks and having gotten my hands on a kit we take the opportunity to install and evaluate the ORK.

This is the Baron kit 0712-0171 costing roughly $230.

The filters also cost about 2/3 times as much as the original filters. Furthermore there are 6 more leakage points on this design than the original, so its worth noting.

Replacement filters are:

KN-303C or Yamaha 3FV-13440-10-00

The night before, the exhaust studs are sprayed with PB blaster though mine are already coated with anti seize. Ill note that this portion of the video is similar to the oil change video until the filter is removed. with pipe removal, foot rest loosening, and brake reservoir bracket removal.

The oil plug is loosened allowing the draining to start.

With all of this removed, the access to the filter cover is possible. Screw order should be retained. With that, removing the filter and cleaning up the old cap, then cleaning, inspecting and reusing the two o rings from that cap. At this time the new kit is opened in a manner that allows for the protective plastic to remain around the parts. The O rings are placed as shown onto the new parts.

All fittings are checked and tightened on the ORK before proceeding. A combinations of old specific sized bolts and one new bolt is called out in the video for use as the ORK is moved into position. Pressed in, the ORK is lined up and the specific screws are placed into their respective holes. I had found that my screws were too wide at the head and needed to be turned down. Check first, don't force it. Size up at Ace if necessary. Remove slack from all 3. Torque alternating to each until they reach 30/60/90 in/Lbs.

Two more screws are supplied for cosmetic purposes to fill the two holes left. After this the bottom of the ORK bracket on the front of the bike is opened, wrapped around the frame and loosely reapplied. Once the correct location was found, it was tightened down, and the protective plastic removed. Then the filter was screwed down after oil was applied to the filter seal.

After a cleaning and detail of the lower portion of the high side. Re assembly of the exhaust/floorboards/reservoir is accomplished. The oil plug is tightened down. With assistance the oil is refilled to just above the half mark. I know with this new system that it will drop and need to be remeasured.

The bike is run for a few minutes to check for leaks. Always looking at the low oil light. Satisfied everything looks good its shut off for 30 minutes for a recheck of the oil level. The level was found the be at the bottom dash, as expected, needing to be topped off.

Another heat cycle and a short run always looking at the low pressure light is a good idea before a long road trip. After a few heat cycles with no leaks its a safe bet everything is ok.
