When Prime Minister Anthony Albanese gave a speech at the Garma Festival in Arnhem land recently, he promised a heap of funding packages to help improve the lives of Indigenous Australians.

He also told the crowd his focus was to drive economic self-determination and move promises into action.

In this episode of Paint it Blak, Emma welcomes the funding packages and the language used by the PM but says communities have been promised change in the past.

She says experience had taught First Nations Peoples to be cautious, as programs and initiatives have historically been strangled by bureaucracy.

Emma is also a First Nations leader, a Teaching Fellow at the Law School at the University of Western Australia, and an Adjunct Professor at Federation University.

Her extensive experience includes legal practice at a top-tier law firm and strategy work at BHP.

A columnist with The West Australian newspaper, with published works in peer reviewed academic journals, Emma is dedicated to ensuring Indigenous perspectives are integral to shaping impactful solutions.
