August 2024 Book of the Month Recap Discussion - Chp. 13-End

🚨**SPOILER ALERT!!!**🚨
Marielle and Megan discuss chapters 13-End of August's BotM, Where Dreams Begin by Lisa Kleypas.

After the ball, Zachary has been avoiding Holly for a couple weeks, and she really misses him. She's in an outbuilding reading one day when it starts to storm, and he shows up to help her. But, she ends up kissing him, and it's ON. They finally sleep together, and sure enough right afterward, she says she has to leave now. Which is what he's been hoping to avoid this entire time.

Holly packs up to leave, and her daughter is devastated. Poor Rose. And poor Zachary, who has to leave first, because he can't stand to watch her leave his house (and him!) after everything.

Holly and Rose return to her in-laws, and she says it feels like an ill-fitting shoe. She can't seem to make herself fit back into her old life. Also, she lets Ravenhill, her husband's friend, court her, with the idea that they might marry. FOR A WHOLE MONTH!

But Holly FINALLY realizes she needs to suck it up and go apologize to Zachary. Before she can, Elizabeth shows up and lets her know that Zachary is a hot mess, and is making everyone MISERABLE. Holly needs to do something! Good thing she was planning to anyway.

Holly arrives and sneaks into the house to talk to Zachary, and tells him she loves him, and she's so sorry, and she was a coward. He of course forgives her, and they plan to marry ASAP, and he transfers all his dreams of a giant wedding to his sister's upcoming nuptials instead.

And they live Happily Ever After, right?? Well, maybe not quite yet. Typhoid, anyone?? The end of this one threw me off😂 but there was a lovely epilogue after!
