Revitalizing Kisumu!

In the last five years, Kisumu County has experienced tremendous economic growth. However, this fast-growing city with over half a million people has had to grapple with urban development challenges including;

o Poor drainage system particularly in residential areas
o Inadequate transport network
o Poor road networks with no street lights and space for non-motorized transport,
o Inadequate water supply and sanitation,
o Poorly developed markets with hawkers blocking roads and
o Inadequate affordable housing

To address these challenges, the County government of Kisumu has taken a strategic decision to implement a new strategic plan that will see the city’s infrastructure development improved to the required standards.

The Key project development areas in the strategic plan include;

o Urban transport (Bus Rapid Transit - BRT)
o Housing development
o Water and sanitation
o Road Network and Drainage systems in the city
o Waste management and
o Establishment of Non-Motorized ways (Pavements)
