To Make Surnali Dosa

Raw Rice - 1 Cup
Fenugreek Seeds - 1/4 Tsp
Poha / Flattened Rice - 3/4 Cup
Grated Coconut - 1/2 Cup
Butter Milk - 1/4 Cup
Salt
Water

Method:

1. Soak raw rice and fenugreek seeds in water for 4 hours.
2. Just before grinding the rice, wash flattened rice(poha) a couple of times with water just to soften it.
3. To a mixer jar, add in the soaked rice, flattened rice, salt, grated coconut, butter milk, water and grind everything into a smooth batter.
4. Add in the required amount of salt and water to the batter.
5. Mix well and ferment the batter for 8 hours.
6. After 8 hours, heat a tawa with a little oil rubbed over it, pour a ladle of the batter onto it and spread it by moving the tawa.
7. Cover the dosa with a lid and steam cook the dosa for 2 mins only on one side.
8. Remove it from the pan and serve it hot with any chutney of your choice by the side.
9. Yummy Surnali Dosas are ready to be devoured.

Surnali Dosa is a soft, spongy and gluten free pan cakes basically from Konkan cuisine. Originally these dosas are a little with jaggery in them. However, in this video, we tried making these dosas without any jaggery so this not sweet in taste but very mildly flavored due to the coconut and buttermilk. Hence you can enjoy these dosas with any spicy chutney of your choice by the side. This is great for breakfast and kids will love this Surnali dosa. Do try this recipe and enjoy.
