Its 2011, early June to be more specific. The Dallas Mavericks are looking to win the NBA Finals. This would be their first championship in franchise history if they can pull this off. This is actually their 30th season as a franchise & these last 30 years had a lot of ups & downs. They started out the 80s as a brand new team and spent a few years building a decent roster before becoming relatively successful in the mid to late 80s but just couldn’t overcome the juggernaut out west, known as the LA Lakers. Going into the 90s, their best players would be traded away, hurt, or had off court troubles so the Mavericks had to rebuild. They thought they struck gold a few times in the draft but it only led to a bad combination of personalities. Once they ended that experiment, Dallas really struck gold on draft night, this time getting someone who would keep the team afloat for years to come. New ownership came along, & while making one questionable move; he was still able to prove his competence. Instead of going after big blockbuster moves, he would just add piece after piece, year after year, as the Mavericks became one of the winningest teams in the 2000s. Even though they won a lot, many of their deep playoff runs fell flat & basketball fans began to doubt that they could ever win a championship but by 2011, they managed to stay focused, & put a hold on a legendary team’s championship goals, all while getting sweet revenge in the process.
