The 2024 Cathedral Organ Recital Series welcomes first-rate organists to play Truro’s acclaimed Father Willis Organ. This week we welcome Joel Colyer. This recital will be live-streamed from 13:10.

Joel Colyer (b. 2003) has been the Organ Scholar at Chingford Parish Church since September 2022 where he regularly accompanies and conducts the many choirs of the parish. He has also accompanied the choir in their visits to Rochester, Chelmsford, Truro, St Paul's and St Alban's cathedrals during his tenure and most recently, a four-day tour of churches in Rome, Italy. Previously he held the organ scholarship at Portsmouth Cathedral in 2021/22 and before that, regularly assisted the choir at St Paul's Church in Heaton Moor, Greater Manchester. Joel studied at Chetham's School of Music from 2014 to 2021, and studied under Christopher Stokes and Simon Passmore.

In addition to his post in Chingford, since January Joel has also been the acting director of music at St Mary Magdalene, Enfield, where he has been taking primary responsibility for training the choir, and has overseen the recruitment of 5 new choral scholars drawn from local schools.

When not at his church posts, Joel maintains a busy calendar of teaching, and also works as a freelance accompanist, musical director and orchestral string player.

He is currently studying at Imperial College London for a degree in chemistry and plays with the university's symphony orchestra and wind band.
