2020 Rae Lakes Loop Solo Hike

October 2020 I took a solo hike through the Rae Lakes Loop in Kings Canyon NP. I started at the Cedar Grove side and went clockwise. I think it's about a 40ish mile loop, but at this time I didn't have any GPS equipment, just a physical folded Tom Harrison map. You will noticed a lot of hazy atmosphere due to some pretty serious wildfires just south of this hoke in the Sequoia NF unfortunate. It was actually rather concerning on day 3 when the smoke popped up over the mountains and I wasn't sure if there was a fire coming my way. Nonetheless, it was honestly one of the best times of my life and some of the most difficult hiking I have ever done (soon to be outpaced by the UHT I am assuming). The climb up and over Glenn Pass was brutal, although to be fair I was not in the best shape and I also tend to push myself unnecessarily because my inner monologue is competitive. I had never really filmed anything like this with a GoPro before either so my shots are random and I even missed a whole day on day 3. I think I recorded with my phone more, but for the moment I am only using my GoPro footage for these YouTube videos. I will have to update this with the phone footage later. Obviously I need to stick to a routine where I make sure to film more content during each day. I am still learning. Nonetheless this is one of my all time favorite experiences and I hope that future trips meet and exceed the feeling I got from doing this. Such a fantastic time. 10/10 would recommend solo hiking this although I definitely recommend taking a Garmin InReach Mini 2 or whatever current version they have with you whenever you solo hike. You never know. Just look up Missing411 for some encouragement.

This was filmed on a GoPro Hero 8 Black with a Sunpak Ultra 7000TM tripod, but I took out the monopod in the middle and just used it by itself as a selfie stick since it's easier to carry. I am currently using an Asus ROG Strix G16 G614JVR that I bought recently through Best Buy to process footage on Adobe Premiere.
