Welcome to the eighth episode of season 2 of The Sci Guys. In this episode we will be constructing a homemade electromagnet out of a few household items. We will also explain how the electromagnet works and why an electrical current generates a magnetic field. Electromagnets range in power from the one we are making today to being strong enough to lift a car.

Iron Nail
Thin Copper Wire that is insulated but not shielded
Electrical Tape
6 x 9 volt Batteries
Alligator Clips
Wire Strippers
Metalic Objects to Lift Like Paperclips or Nails
Goggles
Gloves
Apron or Lab Coat
