DnD Stories: Strahd von Zarovich appears—and my players roast him (Curse of Strahd, Ep. 16)

After speaking with the dusk elf Kasimir Velikov, my players head towards the Tower of Kazan and are met by none other than Strahd von Zarovich himself.

Why does Strahd appear so early in the adventure? Unlike most villains, Strahd does not sit around and wait for the players’ characters to make their move on him. Barovia is his realm and Strahd cannot be killed in the way that most men can, which affords him great flexibility with how he approaches combat and roleplay encounters.

Despite being a living legend, my players decide to roast the daylights out of Strahd. Well damn.
