Visualization of the velocity magnitude at the ocean's surface of a simulation with a coupled global setup of ICON/ICON-O at a horizontal resolution of ~5 km. The simulation was carried out on DKRZ's supercomputer Levante.
The visualization covers more than 5 simulated years and is based on daily data. One the one hand, the visualizations shows slowly moving ocean currents, on the other hand quickly moving weather patterns such as storms are also reflected in the surface ocean velocity.
