The combination of Marietta QB Harrison Bailey and TE Arik Gilbert sparked the 5th-ranked Blue Devils to a 17-9 win over #1 ranked Lowndes in the Class 7A championship game. It was school’s first state title since 1967. Marietta led 17-0 at the half and held on the for win. Tennessee signee Harrison Bailey passed for 271 yards, with LSU/Georgia signee Gilbert catching 11 for 146 yards. Kimani Vidal caught five passes for 34 yards and ran 15 times for 67 yards and two touchdowns. Marietta didn’t put the game away until Peter Warrick intercepted sophomore and future Miami signee Jacurri Brown’s pass at the 2 and proceeded to run out the final 4:42. LSU commit BJ Ojulari had 7 tackles, two for loss to lead the Blue Devil defense. It was the final game for Lowndes coach Randy McPherson who ended his 18-year Vikings career 181-46 with three state titles.
