Ocean Springs 5R2 Landing and Takeoff

Описание к видео Ocean Springs 5R2 Landing and Takeoff

Non-tower, unfamiliar airports can have suprises. Ocean Springs, Mississippi (5R2) is a great example with very tall tress on the approach end of Runway 36. This is a public airport near the very popular casinos in Biloxi.

There are a few clues and traps from the chart and chart suppliment that something might by unusual - the suppliment lists 'trees' for runway 36 which is a bit understated given the lack of displaced threshold. No instrument approach procedures are a bit of a tell - runway alignment is compatible with nearby Keesler AFB and terrain around the airport is otherwise flat. A check in Satellite view confirms the trees but doesn't give the true visual.

In any case - be careful out there and enjoy finding new places!

About the aircraft: 1959 Piper Comanche with 250hp Lycoming engine and 3 blade McCauley propeller.
