"The market started, because of the war in Iran, very, very cautious very nervous of course because everybody is concerned about the future development, the regional war we are facing right now and also the rise of increase of prices of the oil price is also something we are very concerned of. And if we hear from Donald Trump, the president of the US, that he expects the war going on for weeks then we are highly, highly alerted regarding the future development of the stock exchanges of course and the oil price as well."

"So I actually expect the conflict to last longer than a few days. Therefore, I also expect the price of oil to rise, and significantly so. I believe that the stock markets will also suffer as a result of this development when it comes to the financial markets. And that's why I am extremely alarmed and concerned about the developments in the coming days, maybe even weeks."

STORYLINE:
German stock markets started lower on Monday as the U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran rattled world markets.

Germany's DAX dropped 2.2% to 24,737.47, with Oliver Roth, capital market strategist of Oddo BHF Bank attributing the fall to the regional war in the Middle East.

He said the market started "very caurious, very nervous... because everybody is concerned about the future development."

Roth added that he anticipated the conflict to continue for more than a few days and therefore expects "the price of oil to rise, and significantly so."

Meanwhile in Paris the CAC 40 lost 1.9% to 8,413.91. Britain's FTSE 100 slipped 1% to 10,800.63.
