우쿨렐레로 가끔씩 쳐 본 곡이지만 피아노는 어떨까 싶어 연주해 보았다. 키스 자렛이 연주한 악보를 가지고 내 스타일로 (엉망으로 쳤다는 말이다) 연주했다. 뭔가 엄청 복잡한 반주였는데 그걸 따라서 연주하기는 1년이 넘게 걸릴 것 같았다. 남의 악보를 그대로 치는 것도 많은 걸 배우지만 또, 어떤 부분이 내 마음에 드는지 발견하고 그 부분을 발전시키는 재미도 쏠쏠하다. 어차피 피아노는 즐거움을 고난을 위해서가 아니라 즐거움을 위해서 연주하는 거니까. 내가 좋아하는 부분을 하나만 찾아도 성공이다. 이왕이면 새로운 발견이면 더 좋다. 이 곡에서 발견한 것도 여럿 있다. 엄청 쉬운 멜로디에도 복잡한 재즈 화성을 꾸밀 수 있고, 그걸 단순화해서 내 방식으로 만들 수도 있다는 것.

음악적으로, 이론적으로 다 떠나서 무엇보다 무지개 그 너머에, 우리의 꿈이 이루어지는 곳을 상상하면서 이 곡을 연주하면 마음의 평화가 온다. 영화 오즈의 마법사는 아주 어릴 적에 봤지만, 여자 주인공이 이 노래를 부르는 장면은 머릿속에 남아 있다. 우쿨렐레 뮤지션 IZ가 부른 이 곡과 What a wonderful world도 평생 잊을 수 없는 노래일 것이다. 아주 쉬운 곡이니 피아노나 우쿨렐레나 그냥 노래나 한 번 불러보기를 추천한다. 연주는 지난 주에 했고, 올릴까 말까 고민하다가 추석 연휴를 마무리하는 기분으로 올려본다.

I sometimes played the song with ukulele, but I thought about how about playing the piano. I played the music played by Keith Jarrett in my own style.
