A day off from train presentations. Today we have to strip a double layer of deck paint to bring back the natural wood grain of this beautiful Douglas Fir wood for a translucent wood staining. This wood is known for its straight grain with very few knots. After sanding, the wood is still virtually brand new. Douglas Fir is known to resist decay and wood pests. As an added protection, this Douglas Fir was also treated 30 years ago before installling. So now we compare the efficiency and the ease of stripping the paint without chemical strippers with the 13 lb Makita 9403 belt sander and the Craftsman Restorer Drum Sander.
