Kawaguchiko Station to Otsuki Station on the Quaint Fujikyu Railway Commuter Train

The Fujikyu Railway is a private railway line in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. It spans 26.6 kilometers and runs through the entire southeast portion of the prefecture. The railway connects Otsuki Station (which also links to the JR Chuo Line) to Kawaguchiko Station in Fujikawaguchiko. Notably, it offers a breathtaking view of Mount Fuji along its route.

The Fujikyu Railway is often referred to as the “closest to Mt. Fuji” because it ascends nearly 500 meters uphill from its starting point at Otsuki. This elevation difference makes it an ideal choice for tourists and mountain climbers heading to the iconic peak. Whether you’re exploring the Fuji Five Lakes area or commuting locally, this railway provides convenient access. Plus, it offers speedy connections from the Tokyo metropolis using express services, the Fuji Excursion trains a few times per day, using the three-car E353 EMUs.
