SENTINAL LYMPH NODE BIOPSY IN BREAST CANCER BY DRVIMALATHITHAN

A sentinel lymph node biopsy is a procedure that was developed to identify spread of
(metastasis) breast cancer to the underarm lymph nodes (axillary lymph nodes). During
surgery for breast cancer, one or more lymph nodes in the underarm area (axillary lymph
nodes) are removed to check for cancer cells.If breast cancer spreads, the axillary
lymph nodes are the first place it’s likely to go.
The presence or absence of cancer in these nodes is an important factor
affecting cancer stage and prognosis
