June 7, 2019. The Ratnagirishwarar temple, established by the Bhakta Mandali with the permission of Pujyashree Mahā Periava in 1970, on Shivaratri, was the hub of activity at the early hours of June 7. Jagadguru Pujyashree Shankara Vijayendra Sarasvati Shankaracharya Svami was to visit the temple and bless the special Varuna Japam and Homam, prayers for rain, that had been organised at the precinct of the temple. Ratnagirishwarar is an ancient Shiva Lingam that Pujyashree Mahā periava sensed was lying on the shore of Thiruvānmayur. Upon His direction, the Bhakta Mandali and others scoured the shores and found the Maha Lingam. It was brought to this premises and reinstated over a sandy preetham. The temple has Vaideeka traditions and Rig Vedic scholars were called to perform this difficult Varuna Japam and Homam. Chennai has seen some rain since!
