The World's MOST SCENIC $5 Train Ride? (Kandy, Sri Lanka) 🇱🇰

I left Sri Lanka's capital onboard an observation class train from Colombo Fort Station to Kandy. I had heard good things not only about my destination, but also the journey - regarded by some as the world's most scenic $5 train ride.

Having purchased my ticket in advance on 12go, I ensured a smooth journey riding in the specially customised first class observation carriage. It was my first time on an observation train, and with so many windows to admire the breathtaking scenery, it made for a truly unforgettable journey.

Upon my arrival in Kandy, I was greeted by an honest tuk tuk driver at Kandy station. As we passed the Temple of the Tooth Lake and ascended the hillside towards my hotel, my anticipation grew further.

Having checked in to my hotel (Heaven Seven Hotel Kandy) I was keen to get into the town to explore and gather my first impressions of Kandy, Sri Lanka.

I was also in need of something to eat, and had heard that the KCC mall was the place to go... Alas, the appeal was lost on me, and rather than opting for the more commercial offering, I happened across perhaps the best place to eat in Kandy, in the Kandyan Muslim Hotel where I enjoyed beef samosas, chicken blintze, beef Kabul, Sri Lankan biryani, and even my first Kik Cola, before rounding things off with some milk sweets.

A feast fit for a king!
